• Heat exchanger boiler design
• Steam boiler PID control
• Shot timer
• Boiler capacity: 1.8 litres insulated
• Vibration pump
• Water reservoir: 2.9 litre
The Giotto Cronometro Type V features an effective vibration pump that delivers a smooth, slow ramp-up to full pressure. The steam boiler and brew pressure gauges provide the input you need to create the perfect cappuccino. The hidden-behind-the-tray PID displays the steam boiler temperature, which can be easily adjusted. Now, both the vibration and rotary pump Giotto machines have a discreet stopwatch to time your espresso shots.
Our take: The advice to “never take the lowest end model in the dealership’s car line-up” can also be applied here. For a modest up cost from the entry level model Appartamento, you get two gauges, PID temperature control, shot-timer and insulated boiler. This machine is well worth it.
Looking for Rocket Giotto FAST? Not so FAST, as heat-up time is determined by the amount of water and available outlet power, which is 15 amps. A heating element in the grouphead? This will guarantee FASTer trips to the service centre. In any case, enjoying espresso is not about FAST but about slowing down.
